* Laptops, especially ones with decent 3D graphics cards. To run Unity3D you'll need one running Mac or Windows.
* Mouse (trackpads are hard to use for 3D and game dev).
* Unity pre-installed
* iPhones, Androids, VR headsets, AR headsets, Apple TVs & other cool game hardware devices
* Adapters you may need to hook your laptop to the big projector screen to show off your games and development processes to the group

PREPARATION BEFORE CLASS
* Do some Unity Learn tutorials and allocate some time each week to continue doing more.
THE UNITY 5 GAME ENGINE
The Unity 5 game engine is industry standard and the full-featured personal edition is free. It can compile your games for HTML5 web, Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android, XBox One, PS4, Nintendo Wii U and many others. It is the industry standard for many reasons:

* Support for making 3D and 2D games with ready-to-use 3D 1st person, 3D 3rd person, 2D sidescroller and 2D overhead rogue-like RPG characters as well as rolling balls, cars and aircraft.
* Lots of documentation, tutorials and even online classes from schools to learn Unity.
* The ability to build once and launch on multiple platforms.
* Relatively easy coding framework to learn.
* Also as a designer it cannot be understated the usefulness of being able to play the game at any moment without waiting for a build cycle, and the ability for developers to list important features as Public Var's which unity will automatically look for and generate slider scales that designers can modify without having to touch the code base.
* The largest user base. This is important because at some point you will need to work with others to make great games, and if everyone else is already using Unity they will not likely switch to your engine or preference....unless you pay them.
* The Unity asset store is another way for developers, artists and musicians to make money by creating game tools/assets. But it's also a way to develop your own games much much faster.

Unity Editor for Linux
I (Alex) now maintain a Linux desktop running Unity editor for testing purposes and I can recommend it though Mac and Windows builds are still more stable and supported. Unity's Linux release notes thread always has the latest download links.

GROUP INFO
HISTORY
We had our first meetup November 2012 November 4th and it was a lot of fun. We made a game about evil companion cubes that want to give you a hug for very explosive definitions of hug. We were on hiatus for a while while Alex was away but we're back in action.

GAME DEVELOPMENT RESOURCES
You can download an abundance of free resources such as code, art, tools and audio to make your game awesome.

Game Engines
Game engines make it pretty easy to develop games by giving you lots of development tools for world building and scripting.

We're interested in other kinds of game development too, including non-computer game designs like dice-based RPGs, board games and card games.

Unity
Unity is an awesome game development engine based on Mono that compiles for Mac, Windows, iPhone, Web and Wii with support coming soon for PS3 and XBox. Unity has just been made free for indy developers. Unity is an extremely easy to learn game development environment with a massively helpful developer community.

We are primarily teaching and collaborating with Unity in Game Club because it is incredibly awesome and easy to learn.

Unity On Ubuntu
*Unity3D on Wine works with only a couple small bugs so you can create Unity games on Ubuntu too!
Other Game Engines
There are other game engines.

*Unreal Development Kit is also available for free now. We'll no doubt be playing with that as well. Unreal is some seriously advanced game dev technology.
*Objective C: Some people are making iPhone games directly in Cocoa.
*Blender Game Engine: Blender Game Engine is an open-source game engine integrated with the Blender 3D studio software. It has come a long way in recent versions and some of the games people have made with it are amazing.
*OGRE Open Source 3D Engine: OGRE is not a full game engine but it does have Mac, Windows, Linux and iPhone support. It has recently been used to make a big hit called Torchlight.
*SDL: SDL is a cross-platform open-source game development library that has been used to make Aleph One based on the Marathon series.
*Three.js: ThreeJS javascript WebGL/OpenGL wrapper for in-browser gamedev
teaching basic HTML5/CSS3 for static pages
hi,
I"m a new participant at noisebridge but i have a group of women that are interesed in learning the basics of building a webpage. I would like to give the class at noisebridge , if anyone has any reservations or
any opinions please let me know. I also am wondering where I go to find the room reservation schedules. thanks in advance
Erika

:Hi Erika: we have no room reservation system. Please check the "Upcoming Events" and "Recurring Events" sections on the main noisebridge.net page, and find an time/location where no one is using the space. If you can, it's a good idea (but not required) to go to a weekly Tuesday meeting to introduce yourself and learn about Noisebridge before setting up a class. <br>
:-- Mitch.
Hi Mitch,
Completely understand. I met JOhn the other night while i was there and he suggested that I go ahead and post up here incase someone else had already started something like this. I"m trying to make a tuesday meeting, but so far, I've had to work so haven't been able to . I'll be at noisebridge tonight and tomorrow night working on a project and would love to meet you, if we haven't already. I believe we might have briefly.
thanks and look forward to meeting you
Erika
<!-- ==Inquiring about diet hacker guy==
Hey Noisebridge. I came by for the 5 minutes about a year ago. One of the speakers there talked about how he was scientifically testing diets for maximum weight loss and looking into the science of nutrition. The man looked to be about 27, had dark skin (perhaps Indian or Pakistani), and at that point said he had lost 30 pounds already. I was wondering if anyone knew of this guy or had a website or contact for him. I'm doing my own diet studies and was curious about what conclusions his studies brought him to. Thanks very much. 67.218.103.251 16:26, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi Noisebridge,

I am interested in holding Chi Gung and Tai Chi classes at your space. Who should I talk to for getting this started? I would like to teach people how to alleviate carpel tunnel, basic body alignments (especially for knees, spine, and balance), and how to improve overall energy, mood, immune system, and blood circulation in the body.
FWD Events Re-Direction
There is no reason to mention that I post my events to noisebridge-discuss and noisebridge-announce, "invariably" or not.

No one benefits from that information on the event listing - I'm trying to keep my description lean. JeffreyATW (talk) 20:45, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

-- (saved separately in case of future undo's)

Thanks for using this Category_talk:Events section.<br>
But no, a certain percentage of people invariably see the fairly brief wiki event description here before viewing the listserve posting (assuming they're subscribed to either listserve). They'll subsequently be able to use the Discuss/Announce re-direction in its current state to effectively see timely reminders of the bi-weekly FWD highlights.<br>
As a beneficial use-case scenario for those of us (who shall remain nameless) solely wishing to glean highlights of bi-weekly FWD events, this very re-direction filters out the large amount of discussion "noise" even better than subscribing to the Discuss list in Daily Digest mode.

Let's please keep it that way.

JavaScript Edits
The simple idea here is that beginning programmers are more likely to pick up JS material through the more elementary Front-end Web Development material than they necessarily would be from the EcmaScript programming language, DOM, Object Oriented JavaScript, and Events covered in THIS particular advanced JavaScript class. The FWD instructor, JeffreyATW, even routinely provides live video streams of the class for the convenience of his students (see ).

All in all, EVERYONE benefits by directing inexperienced coders to learn JS and other FWD techniques from the Front-end Web Development class and directing more experienced web developers and programmers of other languages to the JavaScript class.
Naomi Theora, quite the disappointment that you remain bored and annoyed!<br>

If you participated in administrating the wiki, you'd be bored and annoyed too. Would you like to participate? By the way, no one calls me "Naomi Theora", so don't call me that. --Nthmost (talk) 17:25, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

As yet another anonymous Tor Coward ('tho not a troll as the recent person submitting huge saggy 8008s pr0n), I am in favor of not only KEEPING BENEFICIAL ANONYMOUS COMMENTS, but also keeping some of the wikis anonymously editable.

In that case, you already have what you wish. 98% of this wiki is still anonymously editable.<br>
ed1: perhaps this just ain't so...

[Then you would be arguing a factual inaccuracy. I'm not sure why you would pick on a demonstrably provable statement like that.] --Nthmost (talk) 16:48, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
While there no doubt will be further wiki vandalism -- hopefully many fewer of those nasties aimed at Johny-Radio as of late >:O[ -- I still think the benefits of allowing limited anonymous edits outweigh the risks.<br>

Easy for you to say when you're not the one putting out the fires. We'd really, really like to spend more of our time doing constructive things for Noisebridge. --Nthmost (talk) 17:25, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
Even as you are likely reading this now, Naomi Theora, Sat night's apres-MakerFaire Party remains listed on the Wiki Events section; after MakerFaire itself and well over a full day past the Party event's ending.

Anyone with a User account can edit that page. The question remains why it seems necessary for someone like yourself to remain "anonymous" in a particular manner, i.e. refusing to make a User account, when it is no less anonymous in the real sense of the word. --Nthmost (talk) 17:25, 19 May 2014 (UTC)<br>

At the same time, we all (most of us anyway) Got Lives and are regularly busy working at our jobs. That obviously includes you, Naomi Theora, as well as other admins. Granting anonymous editing in situations such as the above would (a) greatly reduce efforts to have past listings linger on the main Wiki and (b) allow for much faster transitions from proposed Discuss list events into beneficial Wiki listings.

I'm not convinced by the urgency argument. See previous comment. --Nthmost (talk) 17:25, 19 May 2014 (UTC)<br>

Yeah, interesting thing about that page: I've learned though it that Noisebridge and Wikipedia are not alike in many respects. Wikipedia notably has thousands of admins, plus a page specifically devoted to finding admins who are willing to take the personal risks associated with taking action against "difficult" users. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Admins_willing_to_make_difficult_blocks

Noisebridge also has no imperative to allow anonymous editing via the "this is how we get quality editors" argument at Wikipedia. Noisebridge gets quality community members in several different ways. Wikipedia only has one way: editing. --Nthmost (talk) 17:25, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
* creating an "admin-acceptable" user account, possibly by using Tor and an anonymized email address
.... ed1: "admin-acceptable" might also indicate admins' preference for accounts that are most readily traceable.
* emailing someone personally from such an anonymized and admin-acceptable email address
* Slack
* the nb discuss list
* the rack list

Just curious, Naomi Theora, are you even going so far as to consider deleting this Discussion Talk section as you did for your Talk Talk page; due not only to the obvious chance of open vandalism as well as for reasons of your self-described boredom/annoyance/tiredness??

Because if you are, then that would clearly shut down yet another extra means of gaining constructive input.<br><br>

No, of course not. Even if this discussion veered towards the abusive (which it somewhat has, but I'm letting it go), I'm not in the business of shutting down dialog.<br>
Other opinions
Anonymous edits should be banned. It's not difficult to make an account. The anonymous wiki vandalism wastes everyone's time. You can still be a member of the community and not sign everything with your Firstname and Lastname.<br>

Anonymous edits should not be banned. Anonymous contributors would rather avoid creating traceable accounts. Some -- though of course not all -- of these anonymous contributors have zero interest in vandalizing the wiki and wasting their and admins' time. Believe it or not, such anonymous contributors may wish to remain good "members of the community" without any desire to become openly (or secretly) flushed out by the Noisebridge BoDs and/or admins.<br><br>

Why do you think editing anonymously is anonymous at all? The edit appears under your 'ip address' . This is like people who think bitcoin is anonymous.

Well, it's kind of a numbers game, honestly. Are there enough "good anons" to balance out the hit we take from "bad anons"? How would we even know? Admins only experience this ratio via the hit on their own time. Right now, the ratio doesn't look terrible, but it's veering towards bad.

Anyway, I'm turning off the protection to these pages now that Maker Faire is over. --Nthmost (talk) 16:54, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
stop delting my edits!!!! everybody knows hes not allowed back and hes spreading a bunch of garbage about noisebrigde! why am i the only one who cares about this????

- Hello previous poster. This is the Streisand Effect. If you call attention to the Reverend Mik entity disparaging Noisebridge... you have let him win. He's not hanging around the space anymore, why bother recognizing him?

- Also I'd probably stop deleting your entry if you used coherent sentences with proper spelling. The wiki is in English, use proper English.

Most recent December 17th version of JeffreyATW's excision of the uncensored text of RayC banning incident here is as follows:<br>
Was caught living on top of the building's elevator in February-2014, and was banned for 6 months as a warning. He was caught living in the space again in December-2014. His health problems make it nearly impossible to trust what he will or not do in the future, since we are assuming he is not taking care of himself, and he has come across as severely disruptive to a select few of us in the Noisebridge community as of late. Therefore, Mitch has non-consensually decreed Rayc as unfit to be allowed into Noisebridge ever again, despite the latter's many excellent efforts on behalf of the space over the last several years up to the present and despite a few of his contacts having access to valuable items recently requested for the space; such valuable items as donatable 24 and 48-port Gigabit Ethernet switches, extensive construction material (large boards for multiple kickass library bookcases),...etcetera.<br>--188.138.1.229 16:37, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
