Hey Noisebridge. I came by for the 5 minutes about a year ago. One of the speakers there talked about how he was scientifically testing diets for maximum weight loss and looking into the science of nutrition. The man looked to be about 27, had dark skin (perhaps Indian or Pakistani), and at that point said he had lost 30 pounds already. I was wondering if anyone knew of this guy or had a website or contact for him. I'm doing my own diet studies and was curious about what conclusions his studies brought him to. Thanks very much. 67.218.103.251 16:26, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
FWD Events Re-Direction
There is no reason to mention that I post my events to noisebridge-discuss and noisebridge-announce, "invariably" or not.

No one benefits from that information on the event listing - I'm trying to keep my description lean. JeffreyATW (talk) 20:45, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

-- (saved separately in case of future undo's)

Thanks for using this Category_talk:Events section.<br>
But no, a certain percentage of people invariably see the fairly brief wiki event description here before viewing the listserve posting (assuming they're subscribed to either listserve). They'll subsequently be able to use the Discuss/Announce re-direction in its current state to effectively see timely reminders of the bi-weekly FWD highlights.<br>
As a beneficial use-case scenario for those of us (who shall remain nameless) solely wishing to glean highlights of bi-weekly FWD events, this very re-direction filters out the large amount of discussion "noise" even better than subscribing to the Discuss list in Daily Digest mode.

Let's please keep it that way.

JavaScript Edits
The simple idea here is that beginning programmers are more likely to pick up JS material through the more elementary Front-end Web Development material than they necessarily would be from the EcmaScript programming language, DOM, Object Oriented JavaScript, and Events covered in THIS particular advanced JavaScript class. The FWD instructor, JeffreyATW, even routinely provides live video streams of the class for the convenience of his students (see ).

All in all, EVERYONE benefits by directing inexperienced coders to learn JS and other FWD techniques from the Front-end Web Development class and directing more experienced web developers and programmers of other languages to the JavaScript class.

Nthmost electing Nuclear option
11:47, 16 May 2014‎ Nthmost (Talk | contribs)‎ m . . (0)‎ . . (Protected "Category:Events": Excessive vandalism (‎[edit=autoconfirmed] (indefinite) ‎[move=autoconfirmed] (indefinite)))

Okay, what's done is done.<br>
Still, in the Category:Events Party for Saturday May 17 2014 21:00, an awesomely excellent edit could be:<br>
|description = In town to get your MAKE on, come by Saturday after Maker Faire and get your HACK on at Noisebridge!<br><br>

Current Nthmost edit leaves in-place an uber-untidy description redundancy [oh, sorry. err, why didn't you just edit it yourself? See questions below. --Nthmost (talk) 21:16, 17 May 2014 (UTC)]

and Nthmost shows zero signs of "temporarily" relenting on the Nuclear option applying to the most valid editable wiki pages.<br>

[The "nuclear option" would be disallowing editing from non-admins, which hasn't been done and will not be done. --Nthmost (talk) 21:16, 17 May 2014 (UTC)]

Regardless of Nthmost's devious plans to eliminate anonymous edits (as below), let us hope that we all can contribute anonymous comments and beneficial comments that won't get so maliciously and quickly erased!<br>

[My apologies; honestly didn't mean to disrespect anyone's voice. Trust that it wasn't malice, at least. Besides, if I were really trying to be devious, I would have created a new admin account and protected the front page with THAT, so that people wouldn't know it was me. --Nthmost (talk) 21:16, 17 May 2014 (UTC)]

... or Nthmost and her powerful committee-members can continue to blithely ignore suggestions like these<br>
Whatever......<br>

[Help me out here: how would YOU solve the problem of keeping the admins from getting burnt out defending the Event listings and other important noisebridge things from opportunistic destructive (not even interesting) trolling? --Nthmost (talk) 21:16, 17 May 2014 (UTC)]

[By the way,

* *I took the above suggestion and made the edit.*

The current protection level is "block new and unregistered users from editing".

Is there some reason why making an account and editing a page is out of the question? I am honestly trying to understand. Anyone who wished to remain "anonymous" could easily still use a Tor node, create a throwaway email address to use for wiki editing, and make a meaninglessly-named user account. The point of protecting against anonymous editing is to create a friction to opportunistic destructive trolling.

I'm not try to be a dictator, I'm trying to protect everyone's interests. This is just an experiment and feedback is welcome (despite my initial knee-jerk reaction, which is why I deleted this section before.) I'll leave it here, since it's important to you.

[Neuro] Coming soon to Noisebridge - The Dream Team

Hello Noisebridge!

We shall meet on Wednesday, May 1, at 6:30, because we're all stars!
Python class is over, now let's put that good know-how to work on some
maths and science stuffs. There may also be comestibles, just this once.

Come down to the 6:30 share-a-thon. Discuss your dreams and other
applications of neuron-monitoring devices. I want to investigate lexical
dream content and brainwaves of people all over the planet, starting
with Noisebridge. Thus far, I have an EEG device and a semi-incomplete
research facility (HSNPs).

To get up to speed with what I've been looking into read on. And all you
varied neuro-hackers out there please do go to the brainliner.jp site,
it's amazing.

I've attached a copy of a sample data set taken while writing this
message. Also attached is a screen shot of the GUI that the python
scripts create. The scripts run great on Debian. The dongle that comes
with the device has an antenna to pick-up the WiFi transmissions from
the device. It opens the right sockets, makes a few hand shakes, and
promptly peaces out. Neurosky purports the device will give a good
signal up to 10m. It spews ~500 measures per second.

https://github.com/akloster/python-mindwave

This is the EEG device. Specs included.

http://store.neurosky.com/products/mindwave-1

And here's a link to Yukiyasu Kamitani's landing page with ATR, Advanced
Telecommunications Research Institute International. He's head of the
Department of Neuroinfomatics, and lead reacher on the publication
below. They are working on predicting dream sequences from EEG and MRI
data taken while asleep.

http://www.cns.atr.jp/dni/en/members/kamitani_e/
http://www.cns.atr.jp/dni/en/publications/

Kanitani and others are open-sourcing a good bit of their work. See git
hub repository and standardized repository for sharing neuro-data below.
They're set-up to run in Mat Lab, but w/e.

Really, go to brainliner and then giggle crescendoing into mad-scientist
roar.

http://brainliner.jp/
https://github.com/ATR-DNI/VBCCA

And finally, to pass on a message from a friend, because it's open in my
browser and seems appropriate.
https://raw.github.com/videlalvaro/gifsockets/master/doc/mybrain.gif

See you Wednesday.

Hi, My name is Marlon Boothe. I recently found out about your community. I'm excited about joining you guys. I'm currently looking for sponsors. I tried joining the irc chanel but something went wrong at the end of the set up. Please help. Thanks.

Sorry about the heavy undo action here https://noisebridge.net/index.php?title=Noisebridge&diff=next&oldid=35239. Here's a rationale for my edits:

Noisebridge has now been designated as...
<br>Isn't that just a long winded version of "is"?

new visitors are just as welcome as always
<br>If they are new, then they wouldn't have any reason to wonder why this statement might exist.
<br>
<br>OTOH, gadlen, the most recent language using the terms "always welcome" is clearly more inviting and less cold to New Visitors. Although you yourself might disagree with this emphasis on attracting New Visitors to the Space, you might still want to more carefully review some of the Regular Members' proposals of this "more welcoming" matter on recent Discussion-list postings as well as in the last Meeting's minutes.

consider reading up on
<br>No, it's important they read up on it.
<br>
<br>OTOH, gadlen, the most recent language using the term "review"' succinctly hints at less in-depth "reading" of the required access methods; a definite +plus+ to many more of we excellent time-constrained folks.
<br>Why indeed is it so "important" that New Visitors undergo the ordeal of being required to slog through something that even remotely approaches an undergraduate essay to find out what they really need to know??!!

but it's best to visit when Full or Associate Members are present
<br>A new visitor doesn't care about the difference between full and associate members or that there is a difference. And saying it your way implies there is another, unstated type of member, which there isn't.
: Dearest 71.135.35.112, those are excellent edits, thanks! I'm glad we got to bounce them back and forth a bit.
: PS. A popular way to show discussion threading in Mediawiki is to add a ":" to the beginning of each line. That indents your text. Then the next response gets a "::", etc... It's not perfect, but that's what Wikipedia uses. Keep rocking. --gadlen (talk) 19:11, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
<br>
: gadlen, It does seem from the Community Standards history tab, that User:Flamsmark just went ahead and unilaterally shut out 71.135.45.11x for her/his/their editing there. So while it is certainly Excellent to be able to actively participate in the Wiki editing process just like you and 71.135.45.11x here, there are doubts whether User:Flamsmark himself will likewise participate par excellence.

<br>## Note from some of the recent Discussion-list postings by date that User:Flamsmark is likely taking the "Nuclear Option" in locking-out Wiki editing. Indeed, readers of this (including you gadlen) shouldn't ignore the recent Revision history tabs of both the Main Noisebridge Wiki and the Community_Standards wiki pages. And closely watch the Events Revision history tab to see when User:Flamsmark will "protect" that page too.
<br>As House TV series' Lisa Cuddy says to the Hospital Board when they vote to kick her out in the Babies & Bathwater episode, "this may be the last decision you may ever have as Board Members".
<br><br>Be forewarned, gadlen, you and other Wiki editors are definitely next!

:That is an excellent question! The gist is that it's really good for visitors to know that they will have a better experience (not get kicked out etc..) if they have a sponsor when they are in the space. This is because of the new "members and their guests only policy". So I'm guessing that the instructions to new visitors should try to strike a balance between "Visitors Welcome!" and "Here's exactly how to be an approved guest!" and "Look how easy it is to be an approved guest!" or something like that. And that is what is being worked on now... and you are participating in that very process! --gadlen (talk) 19:28, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Really? Protecting the front page from random anonymous trolling (not even good trolling, just people opportunistically replacing the front page with racial slurs and porn), and making it so that people have to register an account (any account, even a bullshit account) is "bossing"? Last I checked, we had a lock on the front gate to Noisebridge, is that a problem too?

Look, the admins are getting overwhelmed. This is an experiment. The protection level is "Block new and unregistered users." That means the "barrier to entry" is still pretty low -- make an account and then write something in a user page (doesn't even have to be "real"). You could even make several accounts. The point is to increase friction, not to prevent people from editing.

Is this unreasonable? I am asking honestly. Educate me. Nthmost (talk)

Status
Noisebridge is up! We began building Noisebridge in February 2007. Since December 2007 we've had regular Tuesday meetings, and rented our first physical space as of October 1st 2008. We quickly outgrew our first space and have been at our much larger 5,200 square-foot second location since October 1st 2009. We are a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization as of July 2009, retroactive to October 2008.
