The goal is to use blocks of foam as a structure for the payload. We'll carve out relatively closely fitted voids to hold the various components.

Shape considerations:
* balloon sheds turbulence during ascent; torpedo shape might be best for that
* APRS antenna with a 19" radius ground plane parallel to the ground would reduce signal energy sent upwards

Notes on foam:

*) Probably want XPS (eXtruded PolyStyrene). This is a water proof, dimensionally stable, grain free foam. It tolerates very low temperatures well, and doesn't burn easily.
It cuts easily and cleanly with a sharp knife. It doesn't crumble or shed.

Brand names are 'Dow Hi-Load 60' or 'Corning Foamular 600'. Foamular 250 should work just fine (the difference in the number is the compression strength).

It appears that places like Lowes carry it, and it costs ~ $15 for a 2 foot by 8 foot by 2 inch block.

The goal of spacebridge is to become a hacker space-access service for individuals interested in doing high-altitude and orbital (we hope;)) research. As such, we should begin brainstorming about 'fleet procedure', that is: What is a spacebridge launch, how do they sequence, who gets what say/responsibility for each one, etc.

We Have SpaceBridgeAlpha, which is cool, I was just wondering if wanted to establish a naming schema for future launches:

The Obvious Route would be SpaceBridgeBeta or SpaceBridgeBravo, depending on if you're geekiness leans towards Classical Greek or Aviation ICAO, however, I would almost prefer to go with a callsign model, moving forward

SpaceBridgeShip (SBS) Bravo 
SBS Charlie 
SBS Delta 

The nice thing about this, would be in the future if we have any personal projects that we'd like to name something else, we could always dump the ICAO sequence for a more descriptive/epic name (on request of the launch Captain for that particular launch of course).

Launch Date: March 27, 2010. (is this correct?)

Requirements for Launch:
* Payload enclosure
** Foamshell
** Design and test for environmental survivability
* More video (HD, smooth as practical)
* APRS working
* Pointing/stability
** Long tether (L < 50')
** Fins/foils?
** Rollerons
** Fins/foils
** Gyroscope

Suggested additions:
* Parachute deployment
* Mobile camera
* Altimeter (consider $60 Altigps or mems barometer)

Payload Enclosure Proposals:
*Metallized paint is expensive. Suggest gluing mylar/aluminum and soldering ground straps across seams for ESD protection.
*Alternatively, could wrap electronics in foil and hope for the best.

Electronics:
*Lens heater
**Band heater (~$30 McMaster or similar) or Hair Dryer (computer fan plus heating coil)
**Mosfet-actuated, thermistor controlled
**Use mic jack of phone for thermistor input (no arduino necessary!)

Balloon:
*Mylar or similar metallic surface prevents ESD, increases antenna gain.

Standing issues:
*Condensation on lenses (is active warming needed?)
*Turbulent airflow (v = 1200 ft/s)
*Sensor noise
*GPS update rate and smoothing
